Biography

Yamazaki is a Hungarian alt-pop artist and wolf persona who blends city-pop, J-influenced pop, hip-hop and synth-driven soundscapes with fursuit and VR performances. Behind the mask is Budapest-based musician and IT entrepreneur Benedek Rakovics, who writes for people who never felt they fully fit in.

After early classical music studies and years of running his own tech company, Benedek returned to music through K-pop and J-pop covers, gradually evolving into the original project Yamazaki. The wolf mask allows him to explore vulnerability, identity and mental health with a sense of safety – a theme that runs through all of his work.

Musically, Yamazaki draws from Korean and Japanese pop, modern R&B, hip-hop and synthwave, creating cinematic songs that move between Hungarian, English and Japanese lyrics. He has performed at major VR events like Virtual Market (Vket) and Furality, appeared on Japanese radio InterFM and been featured in Rolling Stone. In 2025, he opened a new chapter with his single “Unfolded,” performed on Hungary's most watched Talent Show in 2025, and is currently preparing his upcoming album Katsu.

Curated Playlists

Beyond his own releases, Yamazaki curates playlists that map the sound of his world: Japanese urban nights, cross-cultural alt-pop and the global furry/fandom scene. These lists bring together established and emerging artists and often serve as discovery hubs for fans and fellow musicians.
